02. Curaçao Street Art
Francis Sling is one of the island’s best-known artists and personalities, a true renaissance man: artist, musician, poet, philosopher, and fashionista, all wrapped in a smiling energy and a driven work ethic that’s hard not to be drawn to. His street murals have been commissioned on the sides of buildings and restaurants across town and can be found both inside and outside some of Curaçao’s most popular spots, where you’ll often find him right at the center of the crowd.
The level of detail in Francis’s paintings is fascinating, especially in his massive Djosa mural in Otrobanda, which may be the largest mural on the island, and the striking painting on the exterior of his gallery in Scharloo - well worth a visit. His more recent murals feature a large popcorn kernel, a recurring symbol tied to his personal philosophy on life. Francis is also a great artist to follow on Instagram, where he curates an entertaining window into his curious, thoughtful, and often playful view of art and the world around him and his murals are favorites for people to pose with and
photograph.
