From outside, the Blue Room is a small opening in the coastal rock near Santa Cruz in Banda Abou. Swim inside and the name makes sense. Sunlight filtering through the water fills the cavern with blue, while small silver fish catch the light beneath you. It’s worth taking a moment to float and look around before reaching for your camera.
The entrance is low, but beyond it the cave opens into a chamber with air above the water. Bring a mask so you can see below the surface, too. The view back toward the opening, with fish silhouetted against the brighter sea outside, is part of what makes this stop so memorable.
A guided boat trip is a straightforward way to visit, with a swim from the boat to the cave. You’ll need to be comfortable swimming in deep water, and depending on the water level, entering may mean briefly dipping beneath the surface. Go with someone who knows the entrance and let sea conditions decide whether it’s a good day to head inside.
This fits well into a day exploring Curaçao’s western coast. Give yourself time for the experience, keep clear of the rocks and leave the marine life undisturbed. The light and the fish do plenty on their own.
