You don’t have to leave Willemstad to spend some time among the trees. At Curaçao Rif Mangrove Park, boardwalks take you above the water and through a mangrove forest close to Otrobanda. Slow down along the way and look between the roots, then up into the branches. There’s more to notice here than a quick walk might suggest.
The park covers 12 hectares and opened to the public on July 1, 2022, with conservation, education and recreation at its center. Signs along the paths explain the mangrove ecosystem, including how these trees shelter young marine life and help protect the coastline. It gives you a closer look at a part of Curaçao that’s easy to pass without really understanding.
Viewpoints and resting spots give you places to pause, watch for birds or simply sit for a while. Bring binoculars if you have them, along with water and sun protection, and leave yourself time to stop along the route.
Managed by Carmabi, the park makes learning about nature part of an ordinary walk. It’s an easy addition to a day in Willemstad, especially when you want a little time outdoors between exploring the city’s streets.
