Fort Nassau
Perched high above Willemstad, Fort Nassau combines some of the island's most impressive views with a fascinating piece of Curaçao's history. Originally constructed in 1796 to protect the harbor, the fort has played many roles over the years, including a period under British control when it was known as Fort George.
Since 1959, the historic fort has been home to a restaurant, allowing visitors to experience the site in a completely different way. The setting is what draws many people here first. From the terrace, you'll enjoy sweeping views across Willemstad, the harbor, and the coastline beyond. As daylight fades and the city lights begin to sparkle below, the atmosphere becomes even more memorable.
While the history is certainly part of the experience, Fort Nassau is also a place to slow down over a meal, enjoy the breeze, and appreciate one of the best vantage points on the island.
TIP: One of the few restaurants open on Sundays. Sit on the side facing the water after sunset and take in the sparkling lights across the bay.
