On the road toward Sint Willibrordus, the shallow waters of Jan Kok’s salt flats give you a reason to pull over. This is where wild flamingos come to feed, their pink feathers standing out against the water and surrounding hills. The viewing platform at the edge of the bay lets you watch without stepping into their habitat.
Bring binoculars or a camera with a zoom, because the birds choose their own distance. Some days they gather closer to the viewpoint; other days you’ll spot them farther across the lagoon. Give yourself a little time to watch them moving through the shallows, heads dipping into the water as they feed.
There’s also a kitesurfing spot on another edge of the lagoon, reached by rough, unpaved tracks. That access takes more planning than a stop at the flamingo viewpoint, so check with a local kite operator before heading there.
